I mean come on, who wants to sit in a check in lounge hour after hour waiting to to sit in long flouresantly lit tube and not really being able to see or get a feel for where you're going. That's not travelling! It's getting from A-B with as little imagination as possible. Travelling is all about going somewhere and actually experiencing, and maybe even learning from the journey, it's about growth and development. Anything else is just a complete waste of time. Planes pah! |

I am particularly opposed to air freight for vegetables and cut flowers that not only increases air pollution but damages farmers here who can't compete with cheap imports. It also damages farmers in the developing world who are not paid enough to sustain them. I don't, for example, want to buy asparagus from Peru which has travelled 6000 miles when farmers here can grow it. A first step must be the imposition of tax on fuels so the cost of flying is at least made more realistic. I pledge not to buy any imported fruit and vegetables that have travelled by air freight. I have boycotted my local supermarket and buy from local producers wherever possible. |
