So why do so many people involved with firms, government agencies and NGOs still fly abroad for conferences etc? If they could be discouraged from doing so and persuaded to invest in the latest comms technology it would have a huge impact on the demand for flights. |

All the changes made by individuals in reducing energy use will be totally ineffective if air traffic increases by the levels being forecasted at present.The proposals to expand airports & thus increasing air traffic make a complete mockery of all the government 'pledges' to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the UK. We are bequeathing to our children a country dominated by concrete runways, toxic air, noise pollution, and mammoth problems associated with climate change. We MUST stop this 'short-term profit' mentality, and start making some intelligent decisions which prioritise the well-being of the planet and future generations. ANY FURTHER AIRPORT EXPANSIONS WILL BE DISASTROUS- STOP AND THINK -PLEASE!! We have no right to continue desecrating our beautiful country. Why should the government and corporations have the power to put easier travel and economic growth as priorities- YOU DO NOT HAVE THAT RIGHT- the Earth does not BELONG to us- we have a DUTY to leave it in a healthy state to sustain future generations and diversity of life in all forms. I OPPOSE THE PROPOSED AIRPORT EXPANSIONS TOTALLY, & WILL TAKE ANY NON-VIOLENT ACTION I DEEM NECESSARY TO PREVENT THIS CRAZY IDEA. PLEASE SERIOUSLY RETHINK THIS PROPOSAL FROM A PLACE OF INNER WISDOM. We need to reduce air travel to a minimum not encourage it by ever decreasing its cost to the public. The increased revenue from a tax on aviation fuel could then be used to subsidise more environmentally friendly forms of transport such as rail. |
